DATA SHEET

What is UHMW?

UHMW is a highly tough plastic with excellent abrasion and wears resistance. The versatility of polyethylene has made it become a popular engineering plastic for countless industrial applications, which require durability, extremely low friction, and chemical resistance. Most important, it can keep very good performance under -200 degrees.

What does UHMWPE stand for?

UHMWPE stands for Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene.

What is Virgin UHMWPE?

Virgin UHMWPE means the original grade of polyethylene material,  it is lightweight and long-wearing, it has the best performance of recycled UHMWPE materials, which has excellent chemical, abrasion, and impact resistance, and a low coefficient of friction for wide applications.

What is UHMW used for?

UHMW material can be made into molding sheets from a hydraulic pressing machine,  the finished sheets have wide applications, nearly 90% of industrial equipment will need the full-size sheet or machined parts.

Such as chute, hopper, and truck bottom liner; wear strips and guide rails; high-speed conveyor impact bar; package machinery parts; bumpers and dock fender facing pads; food processing machinery parts.

What is advantage of UHMWPE material?

  • Impact strength
  • Excellent wear resistance
  • resistance to stress cracking
  • increased energy absorption
  • resistant to low temperature
  • improved tensile strength

What forms UHMW can be made into?

After the hydraulic pressing machine, the UHMW material can be made into sheets, boards, and plates.

After the cutting machine, it can be made into strips, blocks, pads, and cut-into-size pieces.

After the CNC milling machine, it can be made into process machinery parts, like UHMW suction box, impact bar, dock bumper, and fender pads.

After extrusion, the UHMWPE material can be made into rods and bars.

After the lath process, the UHMW rods can be made into rollers, pipes, pulleys, and disks.

Is UHMWPE safe?

UHMWPE material is safe enough and can be used for food manufacturing and preparation facilities. It is food-safe grade and friendly to the environment.  UHMWPE material is non-toxic and tasteless, meanwhile, it is recyclable for application and resistant to chemical attack.

If UHMW material works well in low temperature?

One of the excellent advantages of UHMW material is its anti-low temperature. It can work very well even at 269 ℃。

What is the difference between UHMWPE and UHMW?

UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) and UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight) are both high-performance polymers known for their exceptional wear resistance, impact strength, and low coefficient of friction. However, there are some differences between the two materials:

Chemical Structure: UHMWPE is a subset of UHMW and is a type of polyethylene with extremely long molecular chains. In contrast, UHMW is a general term used to describe polymers with a molecular weight greater than one million.

Strength and Toughness: UHMWPE is stronger and tougher than UHMW, with a tensile strength of up to 6000 psi and an impact strength of 160 ft-lbs/in. UHMW, on the other hand, has a tensile strength of around 3100 psi and an impact strength of around 75 ft-lbs/in.

Applications: UHMWPE is commonly used in applications where high strength and impact resistance are required, such as ballistic armor, medical implants, and aerospace components. UHMW is often used in applications where low friction and wear resistance are important, such as conveyor components, bushings, and bearings.

In summary, while both UHMWPE and UHMW share some common properties, UHMWPE is a more specialized and higher-performing polymer that is typically used in more demanding applications.

Is UHMWPE stronger than HDPE?

Yes, UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is stronger than HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). This is because UHMWPE has longer polymer chains, which give it greater tensile strength, impact resistance, and overall toughness compared to HDPE.

Specifically, UHMWPE has a tensile strength of up to 6000 psi, whereas HDPE typically has a tensile strength of around 4000-5000 psi. UHMWPE also has a higher impact strength, meaning it is better able to withstand sudden shocks or impacts without breaking. Additionally, UHMWPE has a lower coefficient of friction and better abrasion resistance compared to HDPE.

Due to its superior mechanical properties, UHMWPE is often used in demanding applications where high strength and durability are required, such as in ballistic armor, medical implants, and aerospace components. HDPE, on the other hand, is typically used in more general-purpose applications such as packaging, pipes, and household products.

Is UHMWPE stronger than steel?

Yes, UHMWPE (Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene) is stronger than steel in certain ways. It has a high strength-to-weight ratio, meaning that it is lighter than steel but can be just as strong or even stronger. UHMWPE has a tensile strength of up to 3.5 GPa (gigapascals), which is significantly higher than most types of steel.

However, it’s important to note that UHMWPE’s strength is different from steel’s in terms of its properties and applications. While UHMWPE has a high tensile strength, steel is generally stronger in terms of its hardness, toughness, and resistance to high temperatures. Steel is also more versatile in terms of the wide range of applications it can be used for, including construction, manufacturing, and transportation.

Overall, UHMWPE is a highly durable and strong material that has many advantages over steel in certain applications, but it’s not a direct replacement for steel in all cases.
